Cycling Performance FAQs
-
Have a big bucket list goal, but cannot commit to monthly coaching?
Want to understand the principles of sports science and your data (power, HR etc) better and how they can apply to your goals?
Want to understand your personal athletic physiology and how this affects your unique race strategy and training goal selection?
Want help in developing a training plan that addresses strengths and limiters in your physiology? Plus, understand concepts such as periodisation and when to apply certain types of training in your program to achieve the best results?
A one off performance consultation does just this. File analysis using WKO5 can also be integrated into the consultation.
-
Not at all. If you have an interest in exercise science and how best to apply those principles to your training, this is a great option. Whether it’s training for a holiday in the mountains, to triathlon, ultra cycling or racing, you’ll come away with a clearer plan and strategies to progress!
-
A component of strength and conditioning is integral to my training approach.
It can help improve performance and decrease injury risk. I can recommend effective strength and conditioning strategies based on training age, availability, event specificity, injury concerns. I can offer expert integration of an S/C program into your weekly and annual training plan and advise on changes around race season.
Menopause & Exercise FAQs
-
Many women begin noticing changes, both physical and mental, as they experience the menopause transition. The changes vary amongst women, however common symptoms experienced may include increased fatigue, slower recovery, disrupted sleep, changes in body composition, and feeling like your usual training plan isn’t as effective as it once was.
Booking a menopause and exercise consult with me, will help you understand the changes that are occurring, and help you to make adjustments to your training, that happening physiologically, and how to adjust your training in a way that supports wellbeing and performance. You’ll learn that managing menopause symptoms often requires a multidisciplinary approach and come away with a plan you can action immediately.
-
Exercise can play a powerful role in mitigating many of the changes that occur during this period of life. Exercise helps improve strength, bone health, cardiovascular health and improved mood.
However, exercise as a stand alone approach does not necessarily mitigate all the symptoms, which are driven by underlying hormonal shifts.
An excellent exercise prescription should be tailored individually, so that it addresses your current goals and lifestyle in a way that enhances wellbeing and is sensitive to your menopause symptoms.
-
Yes and no. The good news is the principles of exercise physiology apply across the lifespan, irrespective of whether you are menopausal or not. Both cardiovascular and strength training is recommended. However, for some women, the menopause experience can be fraught with frustration in managing symptoms, feeling like their bodies have betrayed them, and generally feeling hopeless and fatigued.
The symptoms experienced by some women dictate that they will achieve better results with extra support and planning. I can support you in navigating these changes, and we can craft your plan so you can begin to move forward with your training plan and fitness goals. You will be provided with a road map and step by step instructions of exactly how to achieve this.
I also offer follow up care so we can ensure that the changes made are doing their job.
-
If you’re feeling completely frustrated by this menopause caper and wonder why your “get up and go” has “gotten up and left”, I can provide some clarity and support on how to train effectively during this time. There’s a plethora of conflicting advice online, which can lead to feeling overwhelmed as to how to take the next step.
My consults provide support and meaningful feedback based on your personal data, your goals and your lifestyle. I’m excellent at cutting through the noise and will deliver an updated plan and training strategy moving forward that will help you improve, despite navigating a challenging time of life, physically and mentally.
General Coaching & Consultation FAQs
-
Personal trainers and coaches provide general fitness guidance and are qualified with courses run by governing bodies, such as Fitness Australia and Auscycling/Triathlon Australia, whereas a sports/exercise scientist is degree qualified in exercise physiology and sports performance, and provides evidence-based prescription.
My point of difference? Experience and qualifications! With degrees in exercise science, pharmacy and communications, I’m uniquely positioned to be able to offer evidence based support and care and communicate this is a way that achieves long lasting results.
-
Yes, I do - and I love seeing you achieve your goals and dreams, whether that’s a national level road race or your first triathlon. When you are training around work and family life, it’s important that your plan gives you the best “bang for buck” with the, perhaps, limited time you have available.
No goal or dream is too small - I enjoy working with everyone!
-
I use Training Peaks and its sister “deep dive” software, WKO5 for file upload and analysis.
I offer feedback on every file you upload - and offer pre and post event catch ups as part of my coaching. Typically you’ll receive feedback on five days out of every week, excluding Sunday (unless you are racing) and Monday. Files uploaded during this time are attended to on Tuesdays.
My coaching philosophy centres around communication and feedback (otherwise, why bother with a coach). Additionally, I will adjust a program based on your feedback and data analysis - your program is truly tailored to your personal physiology and circumstances.
